9.  Was the end of the novel satisfying for you?  Was it too much of a fairy tale ending or did Austen hit just the right note?

  1. Loved the novel and I like the fairy tale endings...but yeah, may have been a little unrealistic of that time. Jane obviously had a very lively mind. The fact that she never married and only wrote about almost impossible romances, then passed away at the age of 41, makes me feel bad for her.

  2. I was satisfied with the outcome of the story. I loved how Jane Austen summer everything up in the ending. I think the fairy tale ending seemed to make the story for me. Although I doubt that this kind of thing happened often, it was still possible. Jane Austen seemed to keep the door open on all of the possibilities.

  3. To me, the end of the novel was quite satisfying. It was just what I wanted and it was believable. There was not a ton of fluff about how everything little thing was just so perfect and it did not leave me with the impression that the world was filled with fairy dust. Elizabeth was still spicy as she had always been and Lydia was still immature. All the right characters fell in love and got what they deserved by getting to be married. It was much more "real world" than fairy tale which was great.

  4. I found the end of the novel to be quite satisfying. I feel that maybe if I had skipped over every other part of the book and had jumped straight to the ending, then I may have found it to be to much of a fairy tale ending. However, I did not, and because of this I am able to realize and appreciate how much the characters had to go through in order to reach the ending that they more than deserved. I agree with Maggie, all of the characters who deserved to be together were allowed to be together in the end, which made the ending that much more enjoyable.

  5. I really enjoyed the end of the novel. I don't think it was too much of a fairytale ending. Because Darcy and Elizabeth had a long journey and struggle before marriage, I think the happy ending was satisfying. I felt like they deserved to be happy together after everything they went through. The ending of the story was very realistic because not all the characters had happy endings. Lydia still had conflict in her life and I think this made the ending very believable. Overall I found the ending to be realistic and happy.

  6. I was satisfied with the end of the novel. Yes it was a fairy tale ending but throughout the novel there were trails and obstacles that made up for the fairytale ending. The only drawback I see, is that towards the middle of the novel, without reading the ending, I could have predicted what the ending was going to be. In a sense, the end was predictable, which is okay, because it was so satisfying.

  7. I really liked the end of the novel. It is very romantic but it is also really real to the readers. You, as a reader, are waiting throughout the whole book for Elizabeth to realize her true feelings for Darcy. I agree that the ending was predictable , but Jane Austen made you feel like you couldn't put the book down because you couldn't wait for Darcy and Elizabeth to realize their love for eachother.

  8. Personally, in all honesty, I was not the hugest fan of the end of the novel. To me, you can see the ending way back in the first quarter of the novel. You know that these two characters who seem so opposed to the idea of the other's very existence will eventually overcome their pride and stop fearing their feelings and admit that they love each other and they don't care about propriety and they are going to live happily ever after forever and ever and ever. To me, it's very unrealistic and therefore makes me less appreciative of the good pieces of writing in Pride and Prejudice. But that is just me, and I don't mean any offense to those who loved the ending.

  9. I was satisfied with the end of the novel. Yes, it was a type of fairytale ending, but it was realistic. Darcy and Elizabeth went through so many obstacles that they deserved to be happy in the end. It was realistic because some of the characters were still going through conflicts even though they were happy. Elizabeth changed a lot, but her free spirit stayed the same even though she was in love and happily married. I loved the end of this novel. I feel like it was a very satisfying ending with all the happiness.

  10. I believe the ending to the novel was just right. Although, I'm a sucker for a "happily ever after" type of finish. I couldn't imagine the book ending any other way. From the first moment that Darcy was introduced into the novel, I was rooting for him to capture the heart of Elizabeth. The fairy tale ending pleased me as a reader.

  11. I liked the ending of this story. The author did a great job of giving the reader an ending that was satisfying. In my opinion it wasn't as much a fairy tale ending as it was just a great outcome. The ending that she gave was possible and it can happen to others if they just think about how they really feel about someone and act on it. In other words, it was a weel balanced ending.

  12. I enjoyed the ending of the story. Elizabeth and Darcy finally ended up together, and didn't care about what nobody thought. She gave him the chance to prove himself, and he did. I like how they finally got married and let the past go.

  13. The end of the novel was satisfying. Both Elizabeth and Jane get married to whom they truly love. This not only pleases them but their mother also. The characters learned about what will occur when they judge others and once they got to know one another they learn their judgments were wrong. I would consider the novel to have a fairy tale ending because the girls were not rich but Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley were both wealthy and since women needed to get married for a secure future they in some sense saved them. However it the result of the ending happened after several obstacles were overcome. The characters struggled over the obstacles but eventually overcame the obstacles to find that the characters particularly Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

  14. I really enjoyed the end of the book. I think throughout most of the book it was a roller coaster ride between Darcy and Elizabeth, so it was exciting to see them finally get together. I think Jane Austen did an awesome job showing that the unexpected can happen, even for those who brake all the rules in society. I think the overall message to learn is that true love conquers all. Money and status doesn't make anyone truely happy without the love of another person. It was a great sappy romance book, with lots of meaning and obstacles.

  16. I liked the end of the novel. I am a fairy tale endings kind of person because I love them! I liked how Darcy and Elizabeth finally were together due to the crazy back and forth thing throughout the end. It was a really good book and ending. Austen did a wonderful job of constructing the entire book.

  17. I think the end of the novel was satisfying. It was a little fairy tale like, but after all that had happened I think that was a good way to end it. The ending was not all sunshine and rainbows. For example, not all the sisters were married and Mary did not have much of a chance for marriage. Also, Lydia and Mr. Wickham were prone to spend more than they had. I think these things balance out the super happy endings of Jane and Elizabeth.

  18. I found the end of the novel very satisfying. Considering all the challenges and changes Darcy and Elizabeth made I feel as though it was the perfect ending to the story. Some could argue that the ending is a little like a fairy tale. That the story ended with true love simply because Elizabeth and Darcy were "destined" to be together. However, "Pride and Prejudice" IS a love story and love stories tend to have wonderful, happy endings such as this one. Fairy tale or not, I loved the ending.

  19. The ending was quite a fairytale. It probably should have ended a little more realistic of that time period. However, Jane Austen used great description and detail leaving her audience wanting to read more.

  20. I love the ending of this novel because it ended just how I was hoping it would. It definitly has a fairy tale ending though. Just like in most fairy tales, everyone lived happily ever after. The ending was also a little predictable but I did enjoy it.
